I Made a Lip Gloss Necklace Pendant Because I Wanted My Color With Me Always

There was a morning when I was getting ready in this dreamy, unhurried way that only seems to happen when sunlight filters gently through the window and everything feels softened around the edges. I reached for a lip gloss I had recently fallen completely in love with.

It was one of those shades that doesn’t feel like makeup so much as a mood. A color that seems to hold something tender inside it, a warm radiance mixed with a whisper of rosiness that made my lips look almost like they were glowing from a secret emotion.

As I slipped the gloss back into my makeup drawer, I felt this strange pang, because I knew that once I left the house, I wouldn’t have it with me. And the idea of being without that color throughout the day felt unexpectedly sad to me.

That was when a thought appeared out of nowhere, not loud but incredibly clear, the way inspiration always arrives for me, and it said, “What if you wore it?” Literally. What if the gloss stayed with me, a small, glowing companion resting against my chest like a pendant?

The idea felt wild and whimsical and delightfully strange. Which meant, of course, I had to try it.

How a Simple Thought Became a Full-Blown DIY Spark of Joy

Once the idea entered my mind, it refused to leave, growing brighter and more detailed with every passing minute. I imagined a tiny vial filled with my beloved shade. I imagined a delicate chain, something soft and romantic, and how the pendant would catch the light with the faintest glimmer of color.

I didn’t want it to look like a craft project. I wanted it to look like a tiny piece of wearable art, something personal and intimate, something that held emotion the way perfume holds memory.

That was when I began gathering materials: tiny glass vials from an old jewelry kit, a slim gold chain that once held a charm I never wore, and a clean little spatula that made me feel like a miniature alchemist preparing a precious potion.

The Process of Turning Gloss Into a Wearable Charm

I approached this little DIY project with the same tenderness I use when blending makeup on my skin. Everything about it felt like a ritual.

Step One: Choosing the Gloss That Means Something

I picked the shade that felt like home, the one that made me feel kissed by warmth and held gently by light.

Step Two: Preparing the Tiny Vial

I washed it carefully, letting it dry completely until it was clear and bright, as though waiting to be filled with meaning.

Step Three: Transferring the Gloss

Using a small spatula, I scooped the gloss little by little, pressing it into the vial with the kind of focus that made time feel slower, almost suspended.

Step Four: Sealing and Adorning

I sealed the vial with a small cork and reinforced it with a drop of non-toxic glue, then attached a tiny gold ring so it could hang gracefully on the chain.

Step Five: Wearing It for the First Time

As soon as I put it on, I felt this warm flutter in my chest. A mix of pride, delight, and a strange sense of companionship, as if a part of my creativity was now resting over my heart.

The pendant glowed softly in the light, holding a swirl of pink-gold gloss that looked like bottled emotion.

How This Simple DIY Shifted the Way I Think About Beauty

Ever since making this pendant, I’ve started seeing beauty as something that doesn’t need to live exclusively on the skin. It can exist in small artifacts, in wearable objects, in tiny containers of color that accompany us like pieces of ourselves extended into the world.

The pendant reminds me that makeup can be emotional, portable, symbolic. It can become jewelry. It can become memory. It can become a quiet form of self-expression that moves with you throughout the day.

The Unexpected Joy of Seeing Others Notice It

Every time someone asks about the pendant, they always assume it holds something mysterious like a perfume oil, fairy dust, a sliver of rose quartz ground into shimmering nectar.

When I tell them it’s lip gloss, their eyes widen with this childlike joy, and almost every person says some version of the same thing: “I never thought of that but now I want one.”

And every time I hear that, I feel this soft spark inside me because it means the pendant is inspiring. It touches a place inside people where creativity still lives quietly, waiting to be awakened by something whimsical and unexpected.

A Little Bottle of Gloss, A Little Bottle of Me

Making this pendant started as a playful experiment, but it has become one of the most meaningful accessories I own. It holds color, yes, but also intention, memory, emotion, and creativity.

It feels like wearing a piece of my own artistic heart, nestled close to my collarbone, glowing softly with every movement. Sometimes, the things we carry with us are reminders of who we are when we let ourselves play.
